Ari Lennox
Courtney Shanade Salter, aka Ari Lennox, was born in Washington, D.C. on April 26th, 1991. She is an American artist and songwriter, as well as the first artist to be signed by J. Cole to his record label Dreamville Records. On the 21st of October, 2016 she dropped Pho, her debut EP under the Dreamville Records label. This was when she began to gain recognition. Her debut album Shea Butter Baby was released on May 7, 2019. Ari Lennox started uploading music on the internet in 2012, when she released her debut mixtape Five Finger Discount, and her debut EP Ariography in 2013. In 2014 she continued to share her music over the web, including her own released single Bound. In 2015, she was featured in Omen's Elephant Eyes Album on Sweat it out on July 21st. In the following year, her music began to circulate throughout the Dreamville team as J. Cole wanted her to join him in creating some potential references to Rihanna. In December 2008, the news was made public that Rihanna had been contracted with Dreamville Records. On the release album Revenge of the Dreamers II, she appeared on the track Backseat alongside Cozz. Her Pho EP was released on her debut EP, on Oct 21 in 2016. Ari Lennox then appeared as the opening performance on behalf of J. Cole on his track Change in 2017 and also appeared on the 4 Your Eyez Only Tour. She also appeared on the tracks Nothing but the Best by EarthGang as well as Icarus along with Bas and her labelmates. On the 16th of July in 2018, Ari Lennox released the first single Whipped Cream on her first album Shea Butter Baby with an accompanied music video on the 5th of September. On November 9 the singer released two new singles, the 40 Shades of Choke as well as Grampa. She then released on November 13 two new singles, titled The No One and pedigree. Shea Butter Baby is a track that she recorded with Cole for Creed II's soundtrack on November 16th. It then came out as a single on its own in February of 2019 to coincide with the release of her debut album. The song, made available with a video uploaded to YouTube 20 February 2019 has been watched over 3 million times in the first seven days. In December of 2018, she was a supporting act on the From East Atlanta With Love Tour in conjunction with 6LACK.
